Detail
Matthew “Matt” Yglesias is a United States journalist. His current primary platform is his Substack newsletter, Slow Boring.
Yglesias has a record of publishing commentary which espouses anti-trans sentiments in a bad-faith just-asking-questions or just-being-pragmatic rhetorical frame.
Timeline
2023, November 21. Yglesias publishes a piece on Slow Boring, “The two kinds of progressives,” in which he suggests — purportedly from a position of pragmatic neutrality — that the Democratic Party would be best served by abandoning its support for trans rights (Yglesias, 2023).
2024, November 7. In the wake of the Republican victory in the 2024 United States elections, Yglesias posts a 9-point plan aimed at “Common Sense Democrats” on Twitter (Yglesias, 2024). Point #5 reads:
While race is a construct, biological sex is not.
